3P's visit to Bradshaw Brook, Bolton

Image
The sun shone brightly when 3P visited Bradshaw Brook as part of their new topic on rivers. Everyone enjoyed - adults included - wading into Bradshaw Brook to take part in a duck race in order to measure the speed of the river. The children also spent time investigating which aquatic invertebrates live in the river.  Time was also spent looking at the physical features of Bradshaw Brook. Water and soil samples were taken so there is lots to investigate back in the classroom. A great day was enjoyed by everyone.

Year 3's End of Topic Celebration

Image
A big thank you to all the parents and relatives who came to Year 3's End of Topic Celebration. The children enjoyed showing you all their work on Mighty Metals, making a fridge magnet and reciting the poem 'My Robot's Misbehaving' by Ken Nesbitt . A very happy Easter from Year 3.

The Easter Story

Image
Towards the end of the Spring Term, Year 3 enjoyed exploring the Easter Story with the volunteers from BSYW and The Scripture Union. The children enthusiastically took part in the storytelling, drama and art and craft activities which were provided for them.

Science in 3T

Image
As part of their topic, Mighty Metals, this week 3T had to set up an investigation to find out whether the clothes they wear on a slide makes a difference to the speed they travel down it. Different materials were wrapped, in turn, around a wooden brick and timed sliding down a piece of  guttering. T he children had to predict which fabric would travel the fastest and slowest.                T The wooden block wrapped in silk slid down the fastest while the patterned fabric took the longest. So for a smooth, fast slide wear silk!

World Book Day

3T celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as their favourite book characters. Which characters can you spot?

Fun with Science at Park View!

Image
Year 3 have been lucky enough to spend the last two, gloriously sunny, afternoons on the play equipment at Park View in Lytham. In case you think we were having too much fun (which we were!), it was all done in the name of science. The children were investigating how all the equipment works. It was a great introduction to our new topic Mighty Metals.

Mad Medusa Modelling

As part of our Gods and Mortals Topic Year 3 have enjoyed the story of Medusa and Perseus. Using a range of materials the children set about creating their own Medusa Head including snakes for hair and wide eyes.
